A disease that started in Tokyo. It first infected Gameboys in Japan in 1995. Then in 1998 the disease infected Gameboys in America. Soon channel WB11 was infected too, and now Cartoon Network. The ever-so-popular "Gameboy Advance" systems got infected in 2002, and still is. In 1999 the disease started spreading via cardboard aka "Pokemon Trading Card Game". "Nintendo 64" and "Nintendo Gamecube" are infected too. The disease is also spreading via plastic and metal in the toy isles at Wal-Mart, K-mart, toys-r-us, and every other toy store. It is now July 2004, almost 10 years after the start of this addicting, argument instigating disease and it is still out there, but not as bad as its most powerful years(1999-2001).

In 2000, I almost had a heart-attack from the Pokemon Disease\!

An anime, manga, and nintendo game created in Japan. Pokemon are creatures that children and teenagers (as well as adults) can capture and train. The trading card game was one of the first major trading card games that alowed players to not onle trade, but battle as well. In the anime we follow the story of a young trainer, Ash, and his two friends, Misty and Brock, as they travel togeather on their pokemon journey. The mange series revolves around rivils Red and Blue as they collect badges and compete in various compititions.

He played in Arcades which used to be the old Rice Fields; he felt it was a sin. "Tajiri preserved the world of his childhood in Pokemon" (Time Mag. Nov22, 1999). Then in 1982, Satoshi, Ken Sugimori and a few other mates created the magazine GameFreak (to offer tips and game cheats). After two years of working on it, Satoshi came across Nintendo's Link Cable. "I imagined an insect moving back and forth across the cable. That's what inspired me." Tajiri. It was just an idea, but as soon as he could he signed up with Nintendo. GameFreak almost died because of such money problems, Satoshi didn't even pay himself. After six years, Pokemon hit Japan. But how would it compare to the technology of CD-ROMs? History (after the release): Nintendo didn't expect much from Pokemon. The Gameboy wasn't doing so well, with all the company's moving on from the technology. But there was one group that didn't give up on the Gameboy, Japanese boys. Since they could not afford all the new things. Through word of month Nintendo's sales in Pokemon climbed slowly and steadily (unlike games like [Final Fantasy], they were big hits then died down). Then came the comic, which had the first [Trading Cards]. What really got it going was the fact that you could unlock a secret 151st monster, which Nintendo didn't even know about (cough Satoshi). History (the craze): As soon as Nintendo realised what power they had, they created the cartoon. The animated series, in the form of [Anime]. In late 1997 the cartoon caused seizures to 700 children. This did not help, for this was the first impression the Western world received. On top of that, Role Play games were not big in the Western world like they were in Japan. But unlike when they first started our, Nintendo had a whole line up to support it's game. Nintendo had all the right cards to play, and now we move on to the different sections of the craze. Cartoon: This being released in America before the game. Nintendo made sure all 'adultish' Japanese humour was removed, be it from violence, religion, or sexual discrimination. Nintendo tried to make Pokemon look as non-Japanese as possible. This took a few months to become a major craze, but it was hardly anything compared with how long it took in Japan. The cartoon worked, children (and even others) bought the game and more. In 1999 (when the craze was at its highest) the First Pokemon Movie was released in the US (and before in Japan). With it came a new range of toys, and even a CD of the movie with all the latest pop stars. Come to the movie, and you got 'rare' promo cards. The cartoon and movies (now 7 in the US and soon to be 8 in Japan), are still going strong. Many cartoons and card games try to copy the success of Pokemon, but some enough they are not even remembered. Pokemon is what bought [anime] to the western world. You could say, it broke the barrier of confusion that the western world and eastern world had. Game: The games were first released in Japan as Green and Red. Then there was Blue, which renewed the sprites (images). Pokemon was first released in the US as Red and Blue with the Japanese Blue's sprites. Pokemon Yellow was released in Japan and then the US. It is known as the fastest selling game in history. Gold and Silver was then released with another one hundred Monsters. Followed after was Crystal, the sequal to Gold and Silver. The games then moved to Gameboy Advance, and they deserved to. Since if it was for them there would be no Gameboy Advance. Now there was a whooper of Pokemon to collect, a big 386. But because of the move, you couldn't trade with the old Gameboy. But Nintendo still went a head with the creation of Ruby and Sapphire which had a limit of 200 monsters (135 of them being new). FireRed and LeafGreen then came out late 2004, helping you collect the old Pokemon in a new GBA environment (with added extras of course). But there was more Pokemon to the Advance saga. That's where Emerald comes in, like Japanese Blue, Yellow, and Crystal before it, it was a sequel. This game introduced many new things the average PokeManic will want for his battling skills. That's where the Advance generation ends, and the Duel (for Nintendo DS, meaning Duel Screen) generation comes in. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are the new games. There is a very high possibility that you can trade with Advance. There are many Pokemon games not on this list, but it should be easy enough to find a list of them. Pokemon made RPGs in the US famous, and helped games generally by bring a generation into games. Pokemon games still sell in their millions. Trading Card Game: Owned by Wizards of the Coast. Abused by Wizards to move young Pokemon players to Magic (Wizards also abused Harry Potter TCG and more recently the Neopets TCG and Duel Masters). Late 2002-Early 2003 the TCG became Nintendo's, Nintendo has been continuing it and been putting it to good use since then.

There are three type of people in this world. 1. People that play Pokemon. 2. People that hate Pokemon (mostly FF players who don't even know that Pokemon actually helped Anime and RPGs). 3. People who don't really care. The "non-gamers" (which is what I am when I'm away from my PC screen).

Say what you will folks, but Pokemon is one of the greatest games ever released for the Gameboy. Period. The problem is that Nintendo, through their misguided policy of inundating the market with a whole wack of crappy, kitschy merchandise, not to mention a t.v show and movies galore, alienated their older players. My theory is that most people who complain about how Pokemon is stupid, are actually disenfranchised former Pokemon players. Cause let's face it, back in the day, everybody, and I mean everybody, played it. And all that is a real shame, because from a strictly gameplay point of view, Pokemon kicks ass. It should have gone down in history as one of the better video game franchises. But thanks to Nintendo's decision to sell the game to eight year olds, that won't happen.

Back when Pokemon was cool, I played it all the time. But then when everyone was like, "This game sucks\!" I jumped on the bandwagon, so that I didn't look like a loser.

no kids, not the garbage pokemon that they made. i mean, THE ORIGINAL. this goes back about 10 years. you guys remember when pokemon blue first came out? i know you all got it for christmas that year\! cos i know i did. and i played it all night haha. and pokemon cards were the coolest thing ever. and EVERYONE had them in school, even the real popular kids. if you had a charizard, you were pretty much awesome. you sat for hours arranging your cards in a binder, just staring/reading each and every card. you pretty much had every fact about every pokemon memorized. YOU HAD LIKE 500 SLOWPOKES AND YOU HATED SLOWPOKE BECAUSE OF IT. you woke up at 5 am on school days to watch pokemon. you had a bunch of pokemon toys/stuffed animals. on christmas, if there werent 5 packs of pokemon cards in your stocking, you basically hated everything. when you found a "shiny" card you went completely insane. the number of holographic cards a person had defined how cool they were. you brought your gameboy color everywhere so you could level up your pikachu. you always wanted to evolve pikachu with a thunder stone, but dam game wouldnt let you\! you snuck your gameboy into school to play, and the teacher never caught you. YOU SECRETLY STILL PLAY GAMEBOY COLOR SOMETIMES (i know i do). you could bust out your gameboy right now and play for 5 hours with no problem. im 17 now, and i can look back on this and it was such a fun time of my life. hah. so all you older people, do you remember these good old days?

Pokemon was so awesome before it diverged into new characters. .. I remember having trouble fighting the Elite 4 in Blue version and I kept trying until I finally defeated them. THat was the shit\!

There are three destinct parts to Pokemon anime:Responsible for giving Pokemon its "kiddie" reputation. TCG:I must agree with people about this one, it was pretty horible. GameBoy game:Aguably a great game. It is much more complex then it seems. Unfurtunatly, most people who bash pokemon because it is "kiddie" would most likely not have the intellegence to fully understand the game at all. Why people that bashes pokemon always say something about gay sex or masturbating, I'll never know. That South Park episode don't help much either. I just pray that these people asociating the SP episode with the game are being sarcastic. After reading some of these definitions, I wouldn't suprised.

Once a very popular TV Show, Card game and video game which I myself was quite a fan of at the time. The TV Show and Card game sort of fizzled out after Poke'mon had had its time but the games were very good and they still exist to day. Of course I'm always seeing new card series's being brought out and am occasionally mildy interested because the artwork on some of the cards was rather good. In fact the card game was very popular and a lot of fights broke out about people not trading fairly and people even resorted to stealing others cards but I knew it had all gotten out of hand when at my first school they had people to watch over the swapping of Poke'mon cards and advising people on good swaps. Eventually most schools banned Poke'mon cards (and any others for that matter). So, when they began bringing out all those new Poke'mon and card sets it got a bit boring. So all in all the original Poke'mon cards, games and possibly the TV series was a rather good achievement but it never managed to keep a lot of fans after a few years, but, of course there are still dedicated Poke'mon fans all over the world.

When Poke'mon was cool: Person 1: Whoa look I got this Japanese import of Venusaur\! Person 2: Oh well cool\! Swap it for my shiny Clefairy\!? Person 1: No way\!

Short for "Pocket Monsters," Pokemon originated in Japan in 1995. Pokemon are essentially little monsters that "trainers" collect and battle with. The games and trading cards came to America around 1998, and have been a big hit with children everywhere. Originally, there were around 150 Pokemon to collect in the 3 gameboy games or trading cards. There was also a TV show about a young trainer named Ash and his 2 friends trying to collect all of the Pokemon. Pokemon really went downhill around 2003, but true fans of the series will still find a way to enjoy it.

Even teenagers and adults still enjoy Pokemon. Pokemon is very addictive.

in simple terms, the-highly-underestimated-shit (thats just the gameboy game) however, the gameboy game, and the TV show, have a very strange story, they are about 10-year-old kids that go to different towns to have monster fights to try to win battles to become the best, shortly after the beginning of this life threatening series, the main character, Ash, who has a pokemon that electricutes him in just about every episode, decides to run around the rest of the city's (based on the names of colors, starting in Pallet town,) with a most likely much older adult who likes hard rock types and cute fire types.

2 friends are on a trip together, the one with the gameboy who played pokemon for 2 hours and is now asleep, is a total badass, his/her friend decides that he/she is bored and decides to play the friends gameboy, at firsts laughs that the kid is playing pokemon, but 2 hours later has evolved charmeleon into charizard, a much more badass version.. when friend A awakes to find that his pokemon game has been played, because he is a badass, he pulls out his real fucking pokeball, and beats the shit outta his buddy

Pokemon was a great fad from the years 1998-2000. In Kindergarten, it was all that we could think about; trading, sharing, swapping, PKMN Red, Blue and Yellow. It would have not been poked fun at today if they didn't make all these new Pokemon; 151 was good, except for perhaps Marill, Azumarill, Togepi, and Togetic, making 155. They should have stopped at Red, Blue, and Yellow. The Anime show would have been very excellent if they left all the TV-14 content in the show, just like in Japan, here in America, without Team Rocket coming in every other episode.

These games by far beat any other games that you can think of. They usually have the same basic plot. You start out as a teenager and you choose a name for yourself. Then you meet the Professor that is unique to that one game. There are Prof. Oak(red, blue, yellow versions), Prof. Birch (gold, silver, and crystal versions), and then there's two more but i don't feel like going back to find out their names. I have one friend who I call Aquaman and he plays Pokemon like it's a religion. And he totally kicks ass at it too. I think everyone should try Pokemon at least once, but i'm not saying it's for everyone. So POKEMON4LyFe\!\!\!

If you don't like Pokemon, then you must not have much of a life or whatever that pathetic thing is called.

A fun game made by Nintendo. Originally created in Japan, the game was the inspiration for the TV show (or anime) not the other way around. The game came first. At the beginning there were 151 pokemon, but Nintendo got greedy, and instead of letting the games die gracefully, they had to keep it going. The result is now over 380 Pokemon that (al after 250, anyway) look like circles and blobs with arms and legs. The television show has not fared as well either. The once exciting plot is now stale, dry, and boring. Oh well. Guess its just another thing that [jumped the shark]. Also, teh games are just remakes of the original plot of red and blue...does nobody agree with me here???

pokemon Originated from Japan, of course. Is a widely popular video game and card game, and also a long-running cartoon. The cartoon has been airing for over a decade and is very predictable. Every episode is the same plot, or so it seems. Here is a breakdown. -Show opens with Ash and his posse or varying members walking along, planning where they are going next or talking about an upcoming battle/competition. -A new and mysterious pokemon appears, causing Ash to blow his load and prepare to battle and capture it. -Cue the appearance of the pokemon's owner, usually a cute female trainer that Brock , Ash’s buddy, immediately falls for and is naturally rejected, probably cause she is freaked out by his lack of eyes. -the team and the new female trainer friend continue on, by no coincidence they are usually headed to the same town/city as each other or entering the same competition. (Ash and this trainer inevitably end up being matched up against each other during this competition at some point, if this is the case. The episode is ended with this revelation in these cases.) -Cue our first look at team Rocket, the main bumbling and inept rivals of the group. They are usually in the process of hatching a hair brain scheme to make money at this point. They then spot Ash and Co., who they refer to as “the twerps”, and their plan switches to a plan to catch Ash’s pikachu. (and the trainer friends pokemon, if it is a particularly rare or valuable one). Sometimes, the plan involves Team Rocket disguising themselves in some lame getups, that even an idiot could tell its them. But Ash and Co get fooled. EVERY. TIME. -Cut to a pokemon center, where ash and co. are stuffing their gourds and then go to bed. If it’s the night before a big competition, you get a scene with Ash deep in thought first, with pikachu babbling incoherently. -Cut to the next day, the group are either in some random field, or in a stadium preparing to battle. And here’s Team Rocket\! They do their rather cool spiel then bring out some ridiculous contraption that they use to snatch pikachu and any other nearby pokemon, and then make their getaway. Ash is usually dumbfounded at first, then proceeds to give chase. -You then see Team Rocket, who, for some unknown reason, have stopped to rest in the middle of a getaway. They usually use the line "the twerps will never find us here". Right. Little do they know, Ash has dispatched one of his flying pokemon and said pokemon has located TR and is watching them during their discussion. The pokemon hastily makes its return to Ash. -We go back to team Rocket, who a re chillaxing, when all of a sudden, here’s Ash and company\! Then we usually get a dumfounded reaction from T.R., wondering how they’ve been found. Normally, a small pokemon battle breaks out with Ash and Brock battling Team Rocket and their inept and usually shitty pokemon. During the battle Pikachu is freed in some fashion and returns to Ash. -We then get Ash sicking pikachu on Team Rocket, usually with a thunderbolt. Team Rocket are sent blasting off with their “We’re blasting off again\!” line. -Then we have group celebrating their “victory” -Finally, we go to a scene with the group and their female friend standing together. It’s usually sunset, and they are preparing to go their separate ways and doing the good-byes and good lucks to each other. We then see Ash and company walking from the back on heading for their next adventure. Rinse, Lather, Repeat. Just get it outta here already\! (or at least change it) -

It's video games, cards, and a TV show... the TV show was geared towards kids and was really lame. THe cards were geared towards kids, but they were such a complicated game that no one knew how the hell to play so they would just steal them from each other. The games are really good and was the second-highest selling video game in america after mario. POkemon made some major adjustments in the second generation of games to make them less violent and enslaving-- like the concept of pokemon evolving when they really like you (you have to spoil them.) And pokemon hatching from eggs rather than being caught. Also in the 3rd generation you had the option to not battle at all and just enter little contests with your pokemon. It's true though, they're scraping the bottom of the barrel now that they have like 385 pokemon. People accuse the creator of pokemon (i forget his name) of attempting world domination, and say things like "it's such a stupid idea" about the series. Well, whatever, but obviously he had WAY better ideas than any of them because THEY aren't the creators of multi-million dollar franchises. People like to use pokemon to be racist against japanese people. See below.

The best Pokemon will ALWAYS be the first 150, now it's getting lame with the 450+ Pokemon, which now look like something out of a bad acid trip. Although no one knows how to pronounce the name of the franchise- not even the anime- Pokemon is probably the biggest thing ever to have come out of [Japan]. Pokemon over-saturated the media in the late 90's-early 2000's, and soon people got sick of it, but it's still very successful. However, it has unfortunately crossed over into [nerd] territory. The games themselves are all surprisingly fun. It's an intelligent, strategic game, like chess. The plush toys and lunchboxes, however, I could do without.

Kids were encouraged to like Pokemon in 1999, but now it's more like [Magic]- it's okay to play, but you shouldn't tell your friends.

It began in Japan. Some guy, known as Okirocho Danana wanted to come up with it. So he did. Pokemon Blue hit the shelves in January '94. It began simply enough- catch all 151 pokemon, train a team and get "Blue" laid. A standard team at L100 was usually along the lines of Caterpie/Mewtwo/Chansey/Shoe/Machoke and of course one of the starters- Zekrom or Ice Beam. Completing the game was simple, though many criticized Nintendo selling the GameShark separately as a cunning marketing ploy. Once one had Gamesharked all 152 pokemon, the chairman of pokemon would send 55 virgins to your home. The next generation of pokemon came in the form of Pokemon Gold, and now 251 to catch. GameSharking became an arduous process. It was commonplace to find Gamesharkless players selling crack/doing homework for a trade. Then came Pokemon Violet. To catch the rarer pokemon like furret and castform, one had to attend Nintendo rallies and pledge allegiance to Skeletor. Finally Pokemon Black/White came, with the new feature of DreamWorld. Although a dangerous tactic, Nintendo had decided to link their DS system with SEGA DreamCast, because it was such a good machine that it deserved to be given another go. Players were able to transfer one of two characters- Shenmue or Sonic- to their DS cartridge in place of their pokemon, as Shenmue is a dangerous mofo, and Sonic is nihilistic and racist against the Dark type, therefore the game was won upon transfer.

Pokemon Blue- A wild Caterpie appeared\! Blue sent out Hitmonlee. Wild Caterpie used Flare Blitz\! Its not very effective..... Blue's team was turned to dust....Blue blacked out like a pussy\! Pokemon Gold- Hi, would you like to go to rock tunnel? FUCK YOU, beat the elite four first\! Pokemon Pink- Vaporeon used Water Gun\! Chansey's "soak all fucking attacks" made the move flaccid and useless. Pokemon Black- Shenmue used generic martial arts stance. The foe's Dragonite shit itself\!

The anime: The culprit of giving Pokemon a poor reputation among the former fans of the game (the older ones, at least.) As the anime continued it got worse and worse. The cards: I was never really into the Pokemon cards, but based on what little I knew they were quite fun at the time. I'm not sure about today, though. The game: Many people who are either misinformed or simply un-intelligent bash the game series. However, if one actually looks at it from a purely gaming standpoint, it actually requires a lot of intelligence and thinking on your feet. The games are quite fun and entertaining, (lets face it, nearly anyone could play it for 4 hours straight no problem), and require a substantial amount of strategy and planning.

The TV show on the other hand is horrible, on par with old 60s [Hanna Barbara] cartoons like "Superfriends". Dialogue and voice-acting bad enough to make you weep, incoherent plots that make you wonder how high the writers were when they shat the episodes out, embarrassing attempts at humor which were completely funny and made the show's "serious" moments seem like a joke. You name it. Taking a shit would be more mentally stimulating than this show. Sadly (maybe due to the fact that it's one of the few shows that those without a single functioning brain cell can enjoy) this show is still on the air after 13 years, though its only fans now are 7 year old girls, virgins, and pedophiles who just beat off to the chick in the short shorts (the only enjoyable part of the show). As for the card game, I never played it or any trading card game. So whether it was "good" or not I have no idea. Collecting and trading cards used to be a big part of the fad, but nowadays I think that it'd be cooler to admit you play "Magic" or World of Warcraft than to admit you still play Pokemon trading cards.
